Sunday school takes place on most Sunday mornings, except for the third Sunday in the month, which is when the All Age Worship Service takes place in church, giving the whole family an opportunity to worship together.

On the mornings of Sunday school the children join with the congregation for the beginning of the service. They are then invited onto the dais where the Rector or Curate has ‘a little chat’ with them, following this they leave and go to their relevant classes and we return back into church during communion so that the children can receive a blessing.

Our Sunday school consists of three classes: the 3-5 year old Scramblers meet downstairs in the Refectory; the 5 – 7 year old Climbers are upstairs, and finally the 8 – 10 year old Explorers meet in the other room upstairs.  The older children follow either the Susan Sayers Pebbles or Rocks teaching programme or David Adam’s ‘Searchlights’, these tie in with the weekly readings (usually the Gospel,) used in church. Most lessons follow the format of a chat and story with discussion, followed by an activity, drama or craft linked to the reading.

Throughout the year we have a variety of fun days and visits, these include: the Deanery Infant & Junior Fun Events; these are afternoons of fun filled games and activities which give the children opportunities to meet and have fun alongside other children from other Sunday schools. Also at Christmas time we have our annual visit to see the pantomime at Chorley Little Theatre which is always a great treat for the children. Walking Day weekend is a special time for us too, as every year, (weather permitting,) we proudly lead the ‘Procession of Witness’ through Chorley town centre and on into St George’s church for a special service.

All in all we have a great time at Scramblers, Climbers & Explorers and it’s a delight to see the children’s smiling faces and enthusiasm as they skip off to their classes each week.
